Puppy Love 2: The Return of Housebreaking

You guys have all seen my sweet little Squirt.  My sweet puppy boy turned one in March and we were happily through with housebreaking and crying at night and all sorts of wild puppy behavior.  So, of course, that means that the universe must mess with my life, right?  Universe interference or not, on the evening of April 30th this happened:

There we were, enjoying the Texas spring weather when what do we hear? Crying! And scratching at our screen door.  It was a puppy.  That puppy to be exact.  No sign of an owner, littermates, momma dog, or collar.  Being the glutton for punishment that we are we brought the little guy in and posted to all of the local social media outlets to find his owner.  Did we find an owner? No.  No, we did not.  What we found was plenty of people saying how cute he was.  Of course, he is cute! He is a puppy.  All puppies are cute.  This is a given.  It is like in a geometry proof, given that angle x is a right angle solve for the hypotenuse.  Well, in this case, it is given that x is a puppy then y must mean that x is cute.  It is the theorem of dog cuteness applied.

So, we waited.  And we argued over what to do with him.  And we disagreed on a name.  And of course, during this time we all fell in love with his fluffy self and decided that although we needed another dog like we needed a hole in the head, he was ours.  And so, I present Poe.  Don't ask.  I did not name him.

Friday I took both dogs to the vet.  They checked in Squirt and then proceeded to ask me a lot of questions I did not know about Poe.  Stuff like how old is he (Young.  He still has all his puppy teeth, puppy breath, and no signs of his boys if you know what I mean.)and what breed is he (Um...I do not know).  And we were led to the exam room.  Turns out Squirt, my sweet baby is 14 pounds.  Which happens to be a great weight for a Jack Russell/Chihuahua mix.  Then they weighed Poe.  He is 12.5 pounds.  Already.  And he is 10 weeks old according to the vet.

Time for some math here people.  So according to my research for medium to large dog breeds you take their weight at 14 weeks and double that and then add half of their weight and that gives you their total weight at adulthood, approximately.  So, if Poe was already 14 weeks he would weigh approximately (12.5+12.5+6.25) 31.25 pounds.  But puppies gain an average of 2.5 pounds a week that will make him at least 56.25 pounds.  But that is not what the vet says.  She says he is Border Collie and "something big".  Helpful. The vet thinks he will be between 75 and 100 pounds.  Please let her be wrong.  Y'all, if he gets that big he outweighs small child.  Oh well, I paid for shots and love the little stinker now...whatcha gonna do?

And really,  who could resist this fluffy face?  Not us.  He and his little eyebrows are a keeper.  So, if you will excuse me, he has been quiet for a bit long. I am sure there is a piddle puddle somewhere.
